+.The tree that made the cross is spallted Maple.

On the back of the cross What looks like a pattern is a' spalting'. 

'Spalling' is invaded by mycelium trying to break down the trees.

'Spalling' deforms wood to form a unique pattern.

These trees are so loose they're hard to use.

Put other substances in the tree.

So they make it hard to process and use.  

This is known as a 'Impregnation'.

Pictures is Rosaries made of the same wood.

They are the same tree,
but the overall color and pattern are so different that they look like different trees. 

But it's the same maple !!!
